Organic Cleaning Products for Your Apartment

 In Blog

Chemicals in cleaning products can be harmful to your health. Fortunately, there are many quick and easy recipes for natural housecleaning products. You can whip up a natural cleaning product for almost any household job in just a few minutes with the following common ingredients:

Vinegar – Acetic acid in white vinegar makes it excellent for all-purpose cleaning.
Baking soda – This common household item absorbs odor and adds a mild abrasive to natural housecleaning products.
Natural liquid soap – Dr. Bronner’s castille soap is a classic for natural housecleaning.
Lemon Juice – Lemon juice has disinfecting and grease-cutting properties.
Essential oils – Citrus oils such as lemon, orange and grapefruit give your apartment a fresh, clean smell. Lavender and peppermint oil are also good choices. Tea tree oil is a powerful antimicrobial and antifungal essential oil. A little bit of tea tree oil goes a long way. You can find essential oils at your local, health food store.

Additionally, you will need glass jars and spray bottles to store your cleaning products.

Cleaning your Kitchen the Natural Way

For washing dishes, try mixing one cup of white vinegar with one teaspoon of castille soap. Add ten drops of lavender oil and three drops of tea tree oil to the mixture in a glass bottle. Lavender oil smells wonderful, and tea tree oil helps to disinfect your dishes.

If you have a greasy pan to clean, mix two tablespoons of water with a squeeze of lemon. Add enough baking soda to form a paste, and scrub your pan.

Make a stainless steel polish by combining equal parts of inexpensive, olive oil and white vinegar. Add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice for a fresh aroma.

Bathroom Cleaning

Sprinkle some baking soda around the inside of your toilet bowl, and scrub lightly with your toilet brush. Wait a minute or two, and spray the inside of the bowl with white vinegar from a spray bottle. Notice the fizzing action. Give your bowl another quick scrub with the brush before flushing.

An all-purpose cleaner can be made with a simple mixture of equal parts vinegar and water plus a few drops of citrus oil. Place the mixture in a squirt bottle, and use it to clean tile, linoleum and glass.

Natural Air Fresheners

Freshen up your carpet by mixing two cups of baking soda with ten or more drops of your favorite essential oil. Place the mixture in a jar with a shaker top, and sprinkle some on your carpet. After a few minutes, vacuum your carpet.

Add dry herbs like cinnamon or a few drips of essential oil to a saucepan full of water, and simmer slowly for a quick stove-top air freshener. This is excellent for when you are expecting visitors.

These natural ingredients can be combined in many creative ways. You can experiment and make your own new formulas.

Enjoy your beautiful, clean apartment.
