Don’t Miss New Jersey Holiday Happenings
Yes, it is hard to believe that we are now in the final weeks of 2018 and we’re now in countdown mode to the start of (GASP) 2019. Even if you are still in high gear holiday shopping mode, now’s the time to make some plans and put a few of these fun and fabulous holiday happenings on your calendar.
If you’re trying to stay closer to home near the Jersey shore, why not head on over to Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach for their Indoor Holiday Lights Spectacular, happening this and every weekend in December. Admission is only $8/person and the display of thousands of festive lights throughout is a great way to dispel the darkness of these long winter nights.
Another local option if you love those twinkling holiday lights is in Holmdel at the PNC Arts Center. You can stay warm and cozy in your own car and drive through the extensive mile-long display of colorful lights and animations, open every night just after dusk. Load up your car as the admission is per vehicle. If you’re bringing along the kids or grand kids, check out the PNC event calendar as there’s even a petting zoo right there included in the admission fee on a few select dates remaining in December.
Or, take the drive down to Cape May and hop on one of the trolley rides for a scenic tour around the charming Historic District. There are a few different types of trolley rides to choose from, including The Ghost From Christmas Past. Why not make a whole day of it, and take a guided tour of the 1879 Physick Estate Victorian house museum and choose one of the delicious options for brunch, lunch or dinner as well.
Morven Museum & Garden on Stockton Street in Princeton is home to a beautiful Festival of Trees. The museum’s galleries are all filled with trees that have been creatively decorated by local organizations and businesses.
Now, if you’re stumped for plans for New Year’s Eve 2019, and you’re willing to try something other than dinner out or a quiet night at home by the fire with a bottle of champagne, how about venturing out for a First Night event. There are a number of these events taking place all over the Garden State, including Ocean City, Seaside Heights, Morristown, Haddonfield. The schedule of what’s happening varies in each location, but there’s concerts, magicians, tours, and even fireworks.
And lastly, for those truly seeking a New Years Eve like none other, why not spend the night aboard the Battleship New Jersey. This is an all night, sleep-over affair—on the ship— including dinner, breakfast, waterfront view of the local fireworks and lots more. For all the relevant details, or to book reservations, check out their website.
So, put down your shopping list and scotch tape for a moment, take out your planner and schedule something fun and memorable to wrap up 2018!
