How to Stay Well This Flu Season

 In Blog

Here are several tips that you can use for staying well this flu season.

Washing Hands

The first tip is to make sure that you are washing your hands frequently. Most of the time, the flu virus is going to be spread by droplets when an infected person sneezes, blows their nose, or wipes away the secretions from their nose. Therefore, it is going to be a good idea to keep your hands out of your mouth, don’t rub your eyes, and wash your hands thoroughly several times a day especially in between eating your meals.

Diet

The second tip is to eat a healthy diet that is rich in Vitamins C and E. This is because these foods can help to support your immune system. When you are looking for foods that are rich in Vitamin E is almonds, peanuts, sunflower or corn oil, and sunflower seeds. Then the Vitamin C foods are going to be citrus fruits, orange juice, green peppers, and broccoli. It is also a good idea to reduce the amount of concentrated sugar like soda and candy that you are going to have in your diet. This is because the sugar can impair your immune system.

Sleep

The third tip is to make sure that you are getting plenty of sleep at night. When you are not getting enough sleep, it can inhibit your immune system. But if you are able to get a full night’s sleep, then you will have the ability to keep your body’s natural defenses working efficiently.

Water

The fourth tip is to make sure that you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This is going to reduce the chances of you getting the flu. Therefore, if you are feeling a little bit under the weather, then you are going to need to drink a lot of extra fluids. Most of the time, you are going to become dehydrated because of a fever. The water is going to help to loosen up some of the mucus in your throat along with making sure that your throat is moist. Warm liquids are going to help you even more because when you inhale the steam at the first stages of a cold or flu, it can reduce the spread of the virus inside of your upper respiratory tract.

Exercise

The fifth tip is to exercise on a regular basis. This is because the exercise is going to help to reduce some of the stress that your body might be feeling. But the exercise is also going to help to stimulate your immune system so that you are getting better sleep at night. This is going to be especially true for elderly people who might be more at risk for getting the flu or a cold.

Listen

The sixth tip is to make sure that you listen to your body. This means that you are going to need to take it easy. Therefore, it might be a good idea to stay away from activities that wear you down.
