Power Outage Survival Kit

 In Blog

Is your family prepared in the event of a power outage? Do your children know what to do if the lights go out? Do you have enough supplies to keep your entire family safe during the entirety of the outage?

If you answered, “no” to any of these questions, then it’s time that your family starts preparing for power outages more diligently. In most cases, power outages are minor concerns that can be fixed within a few hours. However, some power outages might be the result of a more serious disaster, which is why your family should be prepared for anything.

To help you stay safe, here is a power outage survival kit full of items that will prove to be useful.

Additional Lighting

You may be able to still see around your home if the power goes out during the day, but you won’t be as lucky if it happens at night. To ensure that the lights going out don’t impact your family, have additional lighting in your survival kit. That includes flashlights, LED lights, and even extra batteries to keep your lighting lit.

Water and Food

You don’t know how long the power could be out, which could impact everything you had stored in your refrigerator. By having enough bottled water and non-perishable food, your family will be able to stay hydrated and healthy during a power outage.

First Aid Kit

Hopefully there isn’t a need for it, but it’s much better to have a First Aid Kit readily available. Whether it’s a Band-Aid to cover a wound or gauze used to tighten a leak around a pipe that has burst, there are a ton of different uses of your First Aid Kit during a power outage or other emergency.

Survival-KitPersonal Hygiene/Sanitation Items

Keeping clean and healthy could become an issue if the power is out for an extended period of time. Therefore, keep personal hygiene and sanitation items readily available in your power outage survival kit. A few toothbrushes and some deodorant could come in much more handy than you ever before imagined.

Multi-purpose Tool

A multi-purpose tool will help you fix anything in your home that may have broken during the power outage. Most multi-purpose tools include a screwdriver, tweezers, file, and a few other key elements that will come in handy if the power is out.

Electronic Devices

A smartphone or computer will come in very handy for communicating with other people to ensure their safety or to get updates on the power outage. To ensure that yours lasts, be cautious of how often you use your electronic devices.

Money

Having cash on hand will help you in the event that the power outage has limited your ability to use a credit card or other type of electronic payment.

Backpack

A backpack will come in very handy to store your emergency power outage kit.  In addition, a backpack will come in handy in event that your power outage is due to a zombie apocalypse and you have to quickly get out of your home. Just grab your emergency power outage survival kit and you’ll be good to go!
