Why give up what you’re good at? If you still want to work in the same field as your career, but you don’t want to work full-time, consider going into the freelance business. Not only do you get to set your own hours, but you get to set your pay rate, too! If you’d rather not deal with the nitty-gritty of the day-to-day work, you might also be able to lend your expertise as a consultant to others in your field.

Pass on Your Experience as a Tutor or Teacher

If you’re open to helping others who are less experienced, you might be a good fit for teaching. The world always needs teachers and tutors, no matter if you’re helping out an elementary school or a university course. Even if there are no schools around, you can still tutor over the internet if you so wish. If you’ve never taught before, don’t worry – as long as you know something very well, it’s surprisingly easy to help others learn about that subject. All it takes is a little (and sometimes, a lot) of patience!

Start Your Own Home-Based Business

Do you have a hobby that you just love to work on in your free time? If so, try turning it into a money-maker! For example, if you knit hats and scarves for your family in the winter, consider opening up a small online store to offer your wares to people all across the world. Or, if you’re passionate about a certain subject, consider starting up your own blog and selling advertisement space on the website. While you might not make bucketloads of cash this way, it can be a good way to make a little pocket change doing the stuff you like to do.

Follow Your Passion With a Non-Profit

Unfortunately, we don’t always have the time to focus on the causes that really matter to us. However, as a retiree, you might now be able to work on those issues you didn’t have time for before. Are there any non-profits in your area that do positive work that matters to you? If so, they might be able to work with you to find a part-time position within their company.

Volunteer for a Good Cause

Unfortunately, there may not be any good non-profit opportunities near you. Or, the non-profits you’re interested in might not have the budget for a new, part-time worker. However, if you mind going without a paycheck, there are almost certainly some charities that would love your help. If you’re at a loss for charitable causes near you, check with your local government to see what they recommend.
